Sounds like Code Pink has jumped the shark.

I think we should just drop the food, without the permission of the ruling military junta. Just drop some crates. Hopefully, it'd then reach people before the military gets there to take it away. Of course, if the military then killed anyone, the USA would be blamed.. and somehow it'd be a Zionist conspiracy against Islam. But, maybe it'd help some people.
And another thing, let's stop calling it Myanmar. Because, whenever someone is talking about it, they just say "Myanmar, formerly known as Burma". Well, let's just call it Burma again (making pythons happy everywhere). Or, maybe "Myanmar, the country that killed Buddhist monks", maybe "Juntadia", or "Who?".

It's funny, since nobody cares about Tibet until there is violence there. Once people get hurt, suddenly lawmakers care. Or, do they? I don't think so, it's the latest cause of the week, but they really don't care. If they did, they would have done something in the decades since China occupied Tibet.
I see a lot of changes in there. But, I didn't see "We'll now charge a reasonable price for a cup of coffee. Because, you know.. it's coffee and not liquid gold" or "We'll stop making up sizes. People like to say 'small', 'medium' and 'large'.. so that's what we'll call them."

What I thought was amusing, is that she is a NJ native, and lives in NYC.
Her mother, who didn't know her daughter was an escort until she called her last week, told the Times she doesn't think her daughter knew who Spitzer was at the time of the incident.
Then, it goes on to quote her mother...
"She is a very bright girl..."
Well, she's not very bright if she doesn't know who Spitzer is, and lives here. And, the "being a hooker" part doesn't lend to the "brightness" part either.
Prosecutors said the highest-ranked prostitutes cost $5,500 an hour.
If he resigns, I sure hope the new Governor does something about these horribly inflated prices for hookers! I remember when you could get a burger, soda and handjob for $.83!

This really has to be the best example of coincidental timing I've ever heard of.
Aljawhary said that she does not believe that the women-only gym hours discriminate against men.
"These hours are necessary because there is a segment of the Harvard female population that is not found in gyms not because they don't want to work out, but because for them working out in a co-ed gym is uncomfortable, awkward or problematic in some way," she said.
They will try to spin this as being for women, but it's really not. It's for Muslim women. Because there are plenty of men who don't go to the gym because they feel uncomfortable or awkward. Nobody is making a special "dorky, overweight man" time slot for the Quad.
Don't want to work out around guys? Go to Curves. Feel that it somehow isn't modest to work out around men? Step out of the dark ages. And, I think the modesty is somewhat BS anyways. Muslim women or not, 80%+ are probably exercising to "look good", which isn't modest on it's own. They other 20% are probably doing it for strictly health reasons.
I don't think it'd be a big deal if they had a special section for a few hours a week, but closing it off to another gender is a bit much.

Why the RIAA should have won (though the fine was too high) | The Iconoclast
I'm not exactly sure what was up with the Jury here. I did read somewhere that based on the judge's instructions, they correctly found her guilty. But, the instructions were a bit "off". No damages, that I'm aware of, have been proven yet this woman is slapped with a huge fine.
Personally, I don't think sharing material should be punishable. Just because I have files on my computer shared to the world shouldn't constitute something illegal. It's really the downloading part where, I believe, the copyright infraction occurs. Actually, not even then. I think it's when the downloaded material is used (watched or listened to). Until it's "used" it's just a bunch of 1's and 0's spread out across a disk. Kind of like a gun being in the bedroom closet, and bullets being in the garage. Until they are put together and used, they are of no harm. But, just sharing files seems pretty lame to have being so punishable.
"It doesn't strike a regular person that by passing a CD around the neighborhood, they should have their house taken away," says Lew Rockwell, president of the free-market Mises Institute in Auburn, Alabama. "And by electronic means it shouldn't be any different."
The RIAA isn't stopping file sharing. They also aren't generating more music sales with all their litigations. But, what they are doing is continuing to blemish an already money-hungry, degrading product, slimy industry.

ABC News: Tiny Jena, La. is Center of Race Debate
Thousands of protesters have descended on the small town of Jena, La., for a large-scale rally in support of six black students charged in the beating of a white classmate.
They are outraged that the prosecutor initially had tried to prosecute the teens on attempted murder charges.
You kidding me? This is what people rally for? When 6 kids gang up on 1 kid and beat them unconscious, I'd have no problem with initial charges of attempted murder. No matter what the color of the beaters or victim. Those are fair initial charges, since beating someone unconscious (and, 6 vs. 1 mind you) isn't just knocking their wind out.
So, this is what people rally about. Not Iran, al-Quada, gas prices, Hamas, Korean hostages (or any hostages for that matter), China sending us lead filled toys for our kids, Chavez's doings, or any of the world changing events which seem to occur on a daily basis. Nope, those things mean nothing compared to this. It'll be great when one day Americans are forced to rally for things as Americans, instead of as races. The only thing, is it seems only something like 9/11 causes that to happen (for a few months, then it's back to normal of course. After all, we have short attention spans).
NYPD bars Iran's Ahmadinejad from Ground Zero -- Newsday.com
I think they should let him there, provide no security, and deem it "Gun Day At Ground Zero".
I'd bet $20 that even though he was "barred", he'll jump in his motorcade and drive there anyways, since he knows nothing will happen to him. What will the US do? Arrest him? Give him a ticket? If people understood how dangerous this guy is, they'd shoot his plane down.

Meanwhile, tensions were on the rise yesterday after Iran's Gen. Mohammed Alavi, a deputy commander of the air force, said his country had drawn up plans to launch air strikes against Israel in case of war between the two countries, according to an interview published by an Iranian news agency.
Uh.. no shit. They have likely had those plans for years. Every country has plans on how to attack another country in case of war. Saying you have those plans shouldn't be news, or raise tensions. It's about as shocking and newsworthy as me saying "I watch TV".

The leaders of Russia, China and Iran warned the outside world Thursday to let Central Asia look after its own stability and security, in a veiled message to the United States issued on the eve of major war games between Russia and China.
They don't want the US or EU to bother with them because:
a) Russia, Iran and China are led by commies and religious bigots, and want to keep it that way.
b) They can keep things secure by force and nobody will do anything.
c) They want to maintain control of their resources to keep getting richer an oppressing their people.
d) They don't want US missile defensive positions in the bordering area (Poland and Chech Republic) so they can more easily strike non Asian targets if they want to.
e) They have done such a good job so far (*cough*Chechnya*cough*)
f) All of the above.
Council Seeks New Ban on Smoking by Parents in Cars - August 15, 2007 - The New York Sun
I am 100% for this, everywhere. I don't care if people smoke in their car, but this bad does it when there are minors in the car. I've always been disgusted when I see parents smoking in their car while small children are in there with them. Especially, in the Winter when all the windows are rolled up except the small crack to flick some ashes out.
Some will say "It's my personal vehicle!" or "What's next? I can't smoke in my own house?!" To the first, your car is a small box, not a house. A kid can't go into the trunk to get away from your smoke, or go outside. They are essentially trapped, and I consider this abusive. It's a harmful thing which you are subjecting your child to, no matter what the consequence may be. That's abuse. To the other issue, I think that'd be a bit alarmist. A house isn't the same as a car (well, maybe if you live in a trailer). And, unless you don't care about your home or how it smells when people come over, you don't smoke in your house anyways. And, unless you're someone who doesn't care about your kids health, you don't do it in your house when you have kids.
US loses track of 190,000 weapons in Iraq - Times Online
More than 190,000 AK-47 rifles and pistols given to Iraqi security forces in 2004 and 2005 are missing, raising fears that US and British troops are fighting an enemy armed with American weapons.
Don't we always fight against people armed with our own weapons?
The Evening Bulletin - U.S. To Give Aid, Weapons To Saudis
Jerusalem - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert confirmed yesterday that the Bush administration intends to provide Saudi Arabia with advanced weaponry, equal to about $20 billion, over the next ten years. A senior State Department official said last night that the administration hoped to bring the deal for congressional approval in the fall. Israeli officials also confirmed that the Israel was informed that American military aid to Egypt in the amount $13 billion would be delivered in the coming decade.
Awesome! More weapons to be sent to the Middle East which will one day be used against us. Even me, a complete idiot, knows that this has never turned out well.
Court Vetoes School Assignments On Basis Of Race
I'm not one who likes affirmative action, or anything putting a "group" ahead of another when that "group" always wants equality. Plus, I went to a "diverse" and "integrated" school. It was diverse mainly because people were bussed in to make it so. That's great, wonderful. A school with a big mix of socio-economic groups and races. But, while the school and town liked to say how diverse the school was, it did nothing with the diversity. No electives on race relations, understanding or learning about each other. Just busing people in and throwing them together.
It was like a rainbow at my high school. You could see the rainbow because each group would self-segregate themselves. Whites here, blacks there, Hispanics over there, Asians in the corner. And, sometimes you'd have a nice Yin-Yang in the main foyer when the Hispanics and blacks would gather to decide if they were going to fight each other then, or later. Ahhhh... diversity!
I was friends with everyone back then. Jocks (because I wrestled), skaters (which was my main "clique"), geeks, blacks.. whomever. But, there was always some sort of racial tension brewing through the year. And, I'd seen people who were normally friendly square off against each other because they were of a different race, or they were from different parts of town. I even remember a few people wanting me to help fight on "their side" if it came down to it (I was pretty damn scrappy back then). Funny thing is, if I remember, most of the tension was between blacks and Hispanics.. and within the Hispanics (Cuban vs. Puerto Rican vs. Other) and not White vs. anyone. The White's vs. "anyone" was usually the whole "clique" thing (Jocks vs. Everyone, Skaters vs. Goth, Math Club vs. Chess Club, etc...) but not racial. Not sure if that says anything, but I guess we could read into it if we wanted to.
So, if a school system is to assign based on race or bus kids in to be more diverse, they should do something with it. Have (force if needed) dialog between the kids, don't just throw them all into the same school. All that will happen is self-segregation within the school, which does absolutely nothing to promote true diversity. All it may say is "They are here, because they are different than you."

Al Jazeera English - News - Osama Bin Laden To Be 'Honoured'
Since Britain is giving Salman Rushdie the title of "Sir", some clerics, in response, are giving bin Laden the title of "Saifullah"("Sword of God").
"If Britain can give a knighthood to Rushdie, we too have the right to make awards to our leaders and heroes," Ashrafi said.
Right, but Rushdie, you know.. didn't kill anyone. He wrote a book. And, even though 'the pen is mightier than the sword', his pen didn't actually write the plans to fly planes into US targets.
Now, since Muslims are rioting and protesting against the honor for Rushdie.. let me go find the links about the riots and protests by Muslims for this "honor" for bin Landen.
Hold please.. looking...
Still looking...
Let's try some non-mainstream news sources...
Looking...
Ok.. none. Not a single report of a riot, protest or angry phone calls by Muslims about this.
When exactly are "mainstream" (i.e. "These extremists are ruining the name, meaning and teachings of Islam") going to do something? Speak up, say something against your brethren killing, beheading, torturing and causing global mayhem against non-Muslims and Muslims alike. And, not these lackluster Muslim pundits you see on TV. I'm talking about the masses, and the moderate clerics. Take to the streets to protest al Queda, bin Laden, and what these extremists are doing. By not doing anything, you seem complacent with what's happening. If you took to the streets like your murdering counterparts, you could really change the course of thinking of people in the Middle East, and the deteriorating view non-Muslims have towards Muslims. We can't, it's up to you.
When will that sink in? It's a bit more important than complaining that you need special foot baths in airports and college campuses.
I'm happy this study was done. I was really thinking it was a bad case of termites, and not those two large airplanes filled with fuel creating large explosions and fires burning at an extreme heat. This ruins my theory that they canceled an appointment with Terminix.
Maybe I'll hold judgment until Rosie O'Donnels independent study comes out to prove her loony conspiracy theory. If it has termites in it, it'll have to be true.

Anti-war mom Cindy Sheehan gives up her protest - CNN.com
Well, this was expected. At first I thought Sheehan was a good figure in the media, which could get people to empathize with parents of fallen soldiers. But, then she basically became an expendable puppet for the far-left, and politicians who were more centered but wanted to grab some of the more left votes. As time went on, I started thinking less of her as an empathetic parent, and more of a left-wing loon. It basically became a lot of "Bush is evil" and "Bush is a terrorist" speeches. Frankly, the name calling only preaches to that choir, and has no real substance behind it.
So, now she's giving up. She's angry at the Democrats who couldn't (and shouldn't have) get a timetable on withdrawal.
I guess no one paid attention to me when I said that the issue of peace and people dying for no reason is not a matter of "right or left", but "right and wrong."
Words and actions are different Cindy. If it's not "right or left", then why did you so eagerly wrap yourself in the "lefts" blankets? The people you surrounded yourself with sure did make it seem "right or left". Didn't you appear with Michael Moore? That's like appearing with Ann Coulter and saying it's not a "right" or "conservative" thing.
Blind party loyalty is dangerous whatever side it occurs on.
Right, and I guess you just learned that, the hard way.
I have been called every despicable name that small minds can think of and have had my life threatened many times.
Glass houses....
The most devastating conclusion that I reached this morning, however, was that Casey did indeed die for nothing.
That's sad, if not pathetic. First, when someone elects to enlist in the military, they don't choose the cause they may die for. He died for a cause. One she may not agree with, one Casey may not have agreed with, but saying "nothing" is smallminded. Of course, I'm luckily not in her position... but saying "nothing"?
Casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives.
That's right, talk smack about the citizens. I'm also pretty sure the people you wanted voted in were voted in, and I'm not too sure what would make you think they weren't going to play politics. That's what they do, and that's what you did for them.
I have also tried to work within a peace movement that often puts personal egos above peace and human life. This group won’t work with that group; he won’t attend an event if she is going to be there; and why does Cindy Sheehan get all the attention anyway? It is hard to work for peace when the very movement that is named after it has so many divisions.
Huh? You mean people in the peace movement play politics with one another? *gasp* What fun would peace be if another group helped peace come about? This movement has divisions which don't work well together? Sounds like the intelligence community. Guess fighters for peace aren't much different.
Our brave young men and women in Iraq have been abandoned there indefinitely by their cowardly leaders who move them around like pawns on a chessboard of destruction and the people of Iraq have been doomed to death and fates worse than death by people worried more about elections than people.
Didn't people say this about, well, every war? Eventually, people come home. The people of Iraq (or, many of them) were doomed to death and fates worse than death by people worried about power more than people before we got there. Their former leader wasn't exactly sending roses to his countrymen... unless you consider deadly gas a "rose", and just figure the torture, kidnapping, imprisonment and death were simply the thorns of that rose.
Oh, I also guess calling people "cowards" here was done from inside that glass house. You don't whine about being called names, then a few paragraphs later call names.
Good-bye America ...you are not the country that I love and I finally realized no matter how much I sacrifice, I can’t make you be that country unless you want it.
buh bye. As I always say, if you don't like this country.. get the hell out. One of the great things about country you hate is that you can leave it. And, it also allows you to view the opinions you have, call names as you have done and sit in front of the President's house in protest. Head on over to Iran and try the same things, then see what country you love. Don't not love the country that allowed you to do what you did, only because you failed.
You may not be able to connect the dots, but for those of us who can.. we know that's what Casey died for. Freedom.
Bush Authorizes New Covert Action Against Iran
I don't know if it's true or not, but if it isn't, they shouldn't have leaked this. And, if it is, they should know when to STFU and not tell the whole damn world. I mean, really.. at some point the news publishing anything about operations, especially covert ones, simply becomes irresponsible. And, I think this was irresponsible.
Gaza suffers 'worst fighting yet'
At least 14 people have been killed in Gaza in the worst fighting since the formation of the Palestinian unity government.
The violence between fighters loyal to Hamas and Fatah on Wednesday shattered a tenuous truce that had been agreed between the two rival groups.
I'm sorry, I must be eating magic mushrooms while I read the news. For some reason 'Hamas and Fatah agree ceasefire' sounded, to me, like people would stop killing each other. Guess I was incorrect.
Gaza is kind of like the thing people would joke about when it came to gang members or criminals. "Put them all in a football stadium and let them kill each other." Gaza is sort of that football stadium. How many people could be on each side of this? At some point, shouldn't they just kill each other off?
Insanity.

Al Jazeera English - Afghan soldiers die in bomb attack
Not much new in this article. Guys with towels on their heads blow stuff up, kiss their camels and begin everything they say with "God willing...". But, the subtle lie/propaganda was interesting:
Dadullah [Taliban military official] said in the interview on Wednesday that Bin Laden planned and supervised the "suicide" operation which targeted Dick Cheney, the US vice-president, in Bargam air force base during his visit to Afghanistan on February 27.
Wasn't Cheney's visit that day a "surprise"? Let's even assume it wasn't, and say it was publicized for a week in advance. I find it highly unlikely bin Laden planned and supervised the operation above and beyond what would be more than the likely standing order of "blow up any American politician". It's a shame Al Jazeera didn't refute this, since all the Taliban supporters will think this impossibility is true.

ABC News: Court-Martial Begins for Soldier Refusing Iraq Deployment
When you take a job, you can sometimes take a stand and not do something you don't want. Generally, that would get us fired, so we do it. And, we know we may have to do things we don't want because most job descriptions include "And other duties..." Joining the military is a job, and one people shouldn't take lightly. Why? Because the job description includes "Go to war" and there is an oath you take.
Cops don't always agree with laws they need to enforce. Vegans and vegetarians know they will have to serve meat when they get a restaurant job. Doctors and nurses may have to treat people they would rather not. And, when you enlist (enlist, since you weren't drafted) you may have to go fight in a war you don't agree with, think is illegal, have a new child, just got married, or any other number of reasons. But, that's what you signed up for. Your recruiter may have told you that you'd be getting laid in every port, and will have college paid for... but unless you're a moron you know you may have to go to war, kill and maybe be killed for some unknown reason.
I was once offered a job at a company to do some programming. But, much of that programming was to make the process quicker and more efficient. Nothing out of the oridinary there. But, what was a sticky point is that the process was to make boards for guided missles. I didn't want to do that, so I didn't take the job. I was also one day going to join the military. Then, I decided I didn't want to.. mainly because I didnt want to fight in conflicts I didn't agree with... since you can't pick and choose the conflict.

Four families have sued News Corp. and its MySpace social-networking site after their underage daughters were sexually abused by adults they met on the site, lawyers for the families said Thursday.
Uh. I almost don't know what to say. I feel bad for the kids who were assaulted, but I don't think it's MySpace's fault. This is another case where parents want to place blame on a 3rd party for bad things that happen. If I were a kid hanging out on a public street corner, and some thugs came up and beat me up, my parents wouldn't think of suing the city since they control the street corner.
"In our view, MySpace waited entirely too long to attempt to institute meaningful security measures that effectively increase the safety of their underage users," said Jason A. Itkin, an Arnold & Itkin lawyer.
I don't think a website HAS to keep it's users safe. I think it's a nice thing when they try, but not something they are obligated to do. Ultimately, it's up to parents to help keep their kids safe, and the kids to keep themselves safe. When are parents going to stop blaming music, videos, movies and the internet?
Victim's cousin charged with tattooing killer - CNN.com
An inmate accused of forcibly tattooing a slain 10-year-old girl's name onto her killer's forehead in an Indiana prison was the victim's cousin, a family friend said.
I think that's awesome. If it were me, I would have added "I love getting rough anal" as well. After all, it *is* prison.

Think long term, man!
Kansas City Star | 10/20/2006 | S. Korea will keep giving to North
I've said before N. Korea is like the middle child, and it seems the sanctions are just it being grounded. Being grounded is supposed to send a message, help deter behavior, and punish. But, when you let a kid who is grounded watch TV in their room, or talk on the phone, you are a weak parent. If S. Korea wants to keep helping N. Korea make money which likely funds it's nuclear program, then don't cry when they lob a bomb your way or have ballistic missles with nuclear warheads pointed in your direction.

Aljazeera.Net - UN vote on N Korea may be delayed
I'm shocked.. flabbergasted.. amazed. The UN may not act quickly on an issue?? Surely this must be some odd rip in the cosmos because this NEVER happens!
Eh, who cares. I say, ignore N. Korea. Like, really ignore them. Don't ever mention them, don't talk about them, don't answer questions in news conferences about them. Act like they don't exist. One day they will either implode, because Kim will be so furious. Or, they will do something really stupid, like fire a rocket at us, or Japan, for attention. Do that, and the "North" part of Korea will go away.

U.N. warns North Korea against nuclear weapon test
The U.N. Security Council on Friday urged North Korea not to carry out a planned nuclear-weapon test and warned Pyongyang of unspecified consequences if it did.
I wish the UN would specify consequences. When they don't specify, we know they won't do anything. And, but not specifying it gives them the leeway to have "talks" for months (see Iran) and still do nothing. I said N. Korea is like a middle child, and the UN is just a bad parent.

Reuters AlertNet - Korean nuclear test may be linked to UN post-Solana
That's a good theory about N. Korea saying they will test a nuke being in response to a S. Korean most likely to become the secretary-general of the United Nations. But, I think N. Korea is more like the middle child of a family. There is younger child Syria and older child Iran. And, Iran keeps getting all the attention so middle child has to start acting up to get attention.
We know you're there you little attention starved loony-toon. Awww.. you're so cute.. I'd pinch your cheeks if I could.
Diplomat Sees Dead End in Iran Talks - New York Times
Well, duh. It's amazing that an idiot like myself can see Iran is just doing what it can to stall sanctions and having the UN call its bluff and all these powerful suit-wearing people don't. Or, maybe they do and they just like these meeting because of the good food that gets served.
Oil Plunges to a Seven-Month Low on Ample U.S. Fuel Inventories
That's pretty awesome that suddenly we figure out there is a whole lot of oil and prices are dropping. It's just a coincidence that the president has ties to oil companies and we are coming up on mid-term elections and lowering oil prices would be seen as a boost for the GOP. Sweet! Gotta love these timely coincidences!
I honestly don't know, or care, who Terrell Owens is. But, if I was rich, famous and talented like him I certainly wouldn't want to kill myself. His "camp" says he didn't really try to, but other reports (from a friend and the paramedics) say differently.
"The fact that it has been reported a suicide attempt, he's laughed at that notion. It was a case that medication that was taken wasn't accepted well in his system with the other vitamins he's on," Sanders said.
Umm.. right. I'm not sure you really have to watch your mix of medicine and vitamins. I've never seen a medication advert saying "If you take Vitamin C, Iron or any other natural and healthy vitamin also found in foods, don't take this out of risk of death." Unless maybe the vitamin is steroids, or cocaine.

MiamiHerald.com | 09/21/2006 | Chavez bashes Bush on U.N. stage
So, many people call Bush the devil. But, most who do it aren't the leader of a country who is giving an address to the U.N. general assembly in the country of the leader of whome you're calling the devil. Enter Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
Before cheering him on, remember he is doing business with the Devil. We buy a lot of barrels of oil from Chavez a day, making us (run by this devil) his biggest customer, or darn close. He has been trying to sell more to Asia than us, but from what I have read his crude oil needs a lot of refining, and we can handle this load better than those in Asia.
If people really wanted to show Chavez that they think he's an ass-clown who should watch his mouth, then don't buy products from Citgo, and encourage others not to as well. It's a subsidiary of a Venezualian state-owned company. I don't think there is a Citgo where I live, so I'm already doing it!
Al-Qaeda threatens jihad over Pope's remarks - World - Times Online

Oil falls to below $68 as Iran tension ebbs
Oil fell more than a dollar to less than $68 a barrel on Monday, pulled lower by expectations that any sanctions against oil producer Iran were some way off and would not necessarily disrupt export flows.
In other words.. people don't think the UN will do anything in the way of sanctions they have said they would do. Now, oil prices fall because of the UNs new track record of not doing anything.
College student who packed dynamite on plane granted bond
An affidavit says Fish told authorities he obtained the explosive devices during a tour of a mine in Bolivia. He says the tour group went to a small shop near the mine and was instructed to buy presents for the miners. Fish told authorities the bag he bought contained coca leaves, juice, the dynamite and other explosive components.
Any would teach you to try bringing back the coca leaves, not the explosives. Apparantly, Lafayette College in Pennsylvania teaches that somehow you can pack explosives into your luggage on a plane because it's a souvenir.
"What? Oh, the depleted uranium wrapped in the Wal-Mart bag is just a souvenir from my trip to Iran. You mean, I can't bring that on a plane? Well, you probably won't like the opium I have shoved up my rectum either."

Republicans Tie Minimum Wage to Tax Cut - Forbes.com
The Republicans are fine with raising the minimum wage, but want to tie it to rolling back taxes on the heirs of multimillionaires. Hell, why not save their buddies some money when raising the minimum wage to $7.25/hour phased in over the next 2 years? Seems fair, don't it? Help people who can't afford things while helping those who can, afford more.
Aljazeera.Net - Watching American TV in Beirut
I've been doing some watching of the latest conflict in the Middle East. I check in on the news once in a while to see if there is anything new, which there really isn't. They are basically fighting with rockets and bombs back and forth. I read the linked to article hoping I'd get some insight that I wouldn't otherwise know. But, it's just another biased article. I guess you can't expect anything else when it comes to Jews vs. Muslims.
Take Monday's coverage of the conflict on NBC's popular Today Show with anchorwoman Nathalie Morales, who in introducing a report on Hezbollah, rhetorically asks: "So just who is Israel at war with in this latest chapter of an ancient conflict?"
Not only does the reporter assume that Israel's war targets only Hezbollah (and not the Lebanese civilians, government, private businesses and the military, which have all been attacked) but even contradicts earlier reports on her own network indicating Hezbollah's founding to be in the early 1980s; hardly considered "ancient" times.
First, I think the reporter was referring to "ancient times" in relation to the Jews vs. Everyone and fighting over land thing. I don't think she was saying Hezbollah was an ancient organization. Second, Israel likely is targeting Hezbollah. The others are being "attacked" because they are where Hezbollah is. Nobody seems to dispute, even the author of this article, that abot 1/4 of the Lebonese people are associated with Hezbollah. They are a part of the government, and are intermixed with citizens as opposed to going out to a battlefield and wearing a uniform. The "citizens" allow Hezbollah to operate, the military allows Hezbollah to operate and the government allows Hezbollah to operate. Where exactly does innocence end and complicity begin?
Absent in the reporting was any reference to Hezbollah's role in defeating the 22-year Israeli occupation of the country and its support among up to a million Lebanese, with many benefiting from an intricate network of social services and political representation.
I've heard this reporting many times. I guess he didn't. Palistinians may support Hamas, but that doesn't make them and their goals any less bad.
Of course, failing to report such details contributes to the view that Hezbollah acts as merely a renegade organisation rather than a movement that encompasses roughly a quarter of the country's population.
Also the reporting doesn't exist that they are firing missles, kidnapping and killing for the government. Oh wait, they aren't. I guess that makes them a renegade organization. You're either operating in a renegade fashion, or under direction of a government.
Anyways.. I could go on, but it's the same old stuff.

CNN.com - Bush condemns disclosure of secret anti-terror program - Jun 26, 2006
I agree on this. I think it was wrong for the New York Times to disclose a secret, lawful, effective program to help track terrorists and the movement of their money. This program wasn't like the legally questionable eavesdropping program, it was perfectly legal. And, effective. It was very irrisponsible to publish a story on it.
Being gay may be nature, not nurture
I'm not exactly sure why this is being studied, but it is. People are gay because they are. These are the kind of studies which one side (pro-gay) would come up with certain data, and the other (anti-gay) will do a study biased to their opinions and views. It's all BS. I think straight people choose to do homosexual acts, like all these girls you now see kissing eachother "experimentally" over the last few years, but homosexuals don't choose to be homosexual. The real study should be why some gays are manly like Rock Hudson and some are more like these guys. I guess studying the "flame factor" would be more socially interesting to me than why someone is gay. I already believe it's genetic/nature anyways.

Don't bother to knock - Editorials & Commentary - International Herald Tribune
The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday substantially diminished Americans' right to privacy in their own homes. The rule that police officers must "knock and announce" themselves before entering a private home is a venerable one, and a well-established part of Fourth Amendment law. But President George W. Bush's two recent Supreme Court appointments have now provided the votes for a 5- to-4 decision eviscerating this rule.
So, cops can just come on in.. no need to "knock and announce". Why don't we all just live outside, speak on a phone system which uses a central mainframe to record us, have RFID tags implanted in our necks, and give DNA samples? Would that make it easier for the gov't to watch over us?

CNN.com - Sex offenders sue for playground access - May 31, 2006
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (AP) -- Six sex offenders sued the city Wednesday to block a new ordinance that bars them from venturing within 1,000 feet of parks, pools and playgrounds when children are present.
The plaintiffs went to federal court to argue that the law is unconstitutionally vague, violates their rights to vote and attend church, and prevents them from freely traveling on roads that may pass within 1,000 feet of the affected sites.
These 6 sickos are being represented by the ACLU. The law does allow offenders to go to these places when they are with an adult who is NOT a convicted sex offender. So, they can still go. They may not have heard, but they can also get absentee ballots to vote, so they still have the right to vote.. just not in person (which I'm not sure is a right in iteself). I also don't think that attending church is a right. From my understanding, churches are not public property, so you really don't have any "right" to be there. I can't go to the local church in a Satan outfit and when asked to leave say I have the "right" to be there. Now, the road issue, not sure. I guess that again, the roads aren't really public property. They are generally owned by a municipality. Plus, if you have ever looked at a map, there is generally more than one way to get most places. Maybe there is a good business in that.. selling route maps to sex offenders. But, somehow all routes lead off a cliff.

Plugged in: Why is Vonage going public? - May. 24, 2006
I asked myself the same question. The stock did as I expected it would today, go down from the opening IPO price. I'd think Vonage will be gone as we know it within 5 years (3, but giving myself an extra 2 years). It's not a standalone product. You need a high-speed connection for it to work from your home. But, cable/dsl providers are and will be making the same 'digital phone service available. Mine does, and I use it. Why would I want to have Yet Another Company in the mix when I can pay my cable company (on one bill) for my phone and internet and cable? If you call Vonage saying something is wrong, would they then tell you to call your internet provider? If something is wrong with the lines, Vonage won't be coming out to fix it, will they? No, since they don't own or control the cables. Plus, I believe I've read that Vonage doesn't expect to pull a profit. Why IPO? As the article says:
"Why an IPO?" says Rich Nespola, CEO of The Management Network Group, a telecom and media consultancy. "Because the investors are seeking an exit strategy. End of story."
Vonage will either need to be purchased or merged or it will become obsoleted and go away.
