HBO Films: John Adams

A few days ago I said how HBO basically sucks. Well, it does. However, for the currently running John Adams series. I just watched the first two episodes, and I must say.. fan-freakin-tastic. The acting is well done, and from what I can recall from all my American history classes, the accuracy is pretty darn good.

I think people should watch this show. If for nothing else, to see what, or to remember what, it was our founding fathers went through. What they did, why they did it and the leap into the darkness they took. These are them we owe for being able to sit in our homes and whine and complain on the internet *ahem*. The men who made it so we can call our (elected) leader a dictator, then have a chance to elect a new one. Then, complain about the new one!

The right of a nation to kill a tyrant in case of necessity can no more be doubted than to hang a robber, or kill a flea. - John Adams

I can't remember a better depiction of men who we now mainly seen as two-dimensional characters. It was interesting to see how politics then, is pretty similar to politics now. And, it was nice to see them come together, for better or worse, against a common enemy. Frankly, I felt a bit patriotic while watching it.

I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will triumph in that Days Transaction, even although We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not.

If you have HBO, give the series a shot.
