I've liked home design shows (I also like MMA, just have to throw some testosterone in here) since they came on the air some time ago. Mainly because I like ideas, projects, etc... Even though I may not do what they teach on the shows, I would keep it in mind, or think "I can do this, because I saw them do that." We've used some things we've seen taught on these shows over the years.
But, is it me, or have these shows gone totally downhill? Not only do they not really teach you how to do things as much (they mainly say what they are doing), but the shows themselves are so obnoxious. The hosts are horrible, with their fake "I'm so happy!!!" personalities, horrible senses of humor (Eric Stromer is a perfect example), and the camera effects are like things a high schooler does in their After Effects 101 class.
To the producers of these shows... they aren't cute, they aren't funny and they are becoming unbearable to watch. I'm more than happy to watch your shows when I can learn something, or get a good idea. But, stick to the basics of what these shows were born from: good ideas and making someone feel like they can also do it. Keep away from these fake chipper personalities, and all of a sudden everything is done and you don't learn a thing. Put it this way.. if you can watch the first 5 minutes to see the "before" and the final 5 minutes to see the "after" and in-between is just fluff, you'll lose your audience.
