Council Seeks New Ban on Smoking by Parents in Cars - August 15, 2007 - The New York Sun
I am 100% for this, everywhere. I don't care if people smoke in their car, but this bad does it when there are minors in the car. I've always been disgusted when I see parents smoking in their car while small children are in there with them. Especially, in the Winter when all the windows are rolled up except the small crack to flick some ashes out.
Some will say "It's my personal vehicle!" or "What's next? I can't smoke in my own house?!" To the first, your car is a small box, not a house. A kid can't go into the trunk to get away from your smoke, or go outside. They are essentially trapped, and I consider this abusive. It's a harmful thing which you are subjecting your child to, no matter what the consequence may be. That's abuse. To the other issue, I think that'd be a bit alarmist. A house isn't the same as a car (well, maybe if you live in a trailer). And, unless you don't care about your home or how it smells when people come over, you don't smoke in your house anyways. And, unless you're someone who doesn't care about your kids health, you don't do it in your house when you have kids.
