Los Alamos, UW research paints grim picture of bird flu pandemic

Instead of researching how bad the bird flu could be, how about researching how to stop/contain/cure it? Huh? How about that? Think that may be more useful?

I'm trying to remember the thing from a few years ago which was going to be a pandemic and everyone was nervous about. Not Mad Cow.. although I remember similar fear-mongering about it. Oh, SARS.. yes, that's it. Am I mis-recalling, or was the whole SARS thing pretty much the same doom-and-gloom?
