Calling the UK

I don't know why, but I think it's funny that when you call the UK, the tone of the ring is different. For some reason, puts me in the mood to listen to some Pink Floyd...

I remember years ago in college we had some guy from the UK stay with us for a bit. When he went back, I gave him a call to see how he was doing. For the life of me, I don't remember what town he lived in, but it wasn't a "major" town or city that an American would recall. His mum answered the phone, and I couldn't understand a damn word she said to me. I know she was speaking English, but the accent was so thick and distorted, I couldn't understand her and really didn't know if she understood me. Imagine if current-day Bob Dylan had a thick British accent.. that's all I could compare it to. To this day, all I think I got out of the conversation is that he was out riding a moped or something. Or, milking a chicken. Knowing him, it was the chicken.
