The people of Iraq got to vote today. This is really a great thing for them, I believe. The average Iraqi is probably more concerned with their electricity, gas and food while the world is currently focusing on the elections. But, they are important. If not for the fact of an election national assembly, for the fact that went out and voted full knowing the insurgents warned them not to. They bravely walked openly in the streets to go cast their ballot. Good for them.
I still think Iraq will be in a civil war within the next few years, but maybe this will give some people who want democracy and want freedom to not let the likes of a Saddam or terrorists keep them down anymore.
In any case. Those who went and voted should be proud. Now, back to your regularly scheduled car bombings, lack of electricity and general insecurity.
Posted by Kevin at January 30, 2005 03:19 PMThe big question is, "What has changed?". The answer is more likely absoulutly nothing. No doubt the government that is currently running Iraqi (no it's not a marshall rule, there is an actual sub-government running at the moment. We're just there to be shot at!).
Okay yes the iraqi people have got to vote for the first time in 25 years good for them. It will never change anything until the forces remove themselves from Iraq and then more and likely all hell will break lose as a power struggle takes place and then in steps someone to take the place of Saddam. It's inevitable that this will happen no matter how long the forces stay in Iraq. There's just too much money involved in the whole thing. Life would be so much better if the oil wells dried up!
