This morning when I was returning from taking Jazzy to the vet, I saw two Goldens running up the road. One had tags, one didn't. The one that did kept going, but the one without came up to me. The dog was wet, dirty and had burrs on it. But, it had trimmed nails and wasn't unfed. So I knew it wasn't a stray, and must have run off from somewhere. My first thought was... two Goldens, running from the direction of the woods.. must have belonged to a hunter.
I got a tennis ball, and played catch in the front with the dog. I was hoping someone would drive around looking for their dogs. No luck. So I called the dog catcher (which doesn't catch dogs until after 4, apparantly), Town Hall and a few vets. In case someone was looking around for their dogs, I wanted them to be able to call me.
After a while, I decided to let the dog out in the back yard with Jazzy. I figured they could play, and I should be able to see/hear anyone looking for a dog from on the deck. They played very well together. I'll tell ya, it was nice having a big dog around to play with and nice having a partner for Jazzy to play with. Don't tell Suzy that though :-) I not-so-secretely would love another dog.
I figured I'd wait a few hours, and see if anyone drove by or called. 2 hours had already passed. Since the dogs were getting along, I'd wait a while then take the dog to the vet and see if it had a chip, and go from there.
Then, I remembered that some people up the street had two dogs. I couldn't remember if they were Goldens or Shepards. Took a while for this to come to mind since the dogs came from the other direction, and "hunter" was my thought. But, I'd take a walk down there and ask them if they had Goldens. I did, and they did. The woman was just getting ready to go look for Buddy, this dog. Buddy. The one damn name I didn't try calling the dog. I always called Zeke "buddy" or "goofy boy", so I don't call other dogs those things.
Anyways, she came down and got Buddy. He was new for them (they now have three Goldens), so wouldn't have known to go "home" there yet. It was a nice refreshing morning for me (and Jazzy) though. Playing with a large dog again, frolicking on the lawn with it. Almost makes me want to go rescue a dog. Hmmm... Suzy is in FL for the next week. Hope I don't get bored this weekend :-)
Posted by Kevin at November 04, 2004 10:58 AMYou're gonna get a new dooogggg. You're gonna get a new doooggg! And you're gonna go to the bar... :o)
Bored this weekend? Please!
You have time alone! How freaking great is that? Me? I am planning and frantically cleaning for Bridget's baby shower and Saturday and wondering when in the hell we'll be able to get our asses up there. With all of the managers out of the office, my options are looking real slim. Which royally pisses me off as one of them didn't even make plans covering those days until after I went to request them!
I doubt we'd get a new dog. If we did, I don't think it would be now. I'd rather do it in the Spring when I can be outside with it for training. Snow soon.
Not sure if I'll go to the bar. Maybe I will tomorrow for a little bit. Depends on the weather, since I'd want to sit outside once the music starts.
You better be getting your ass up here. Just come, and call in sick.
Posted by: Kevin on November 4, 2004 12:50 PMJust looking at your weather map and it looks like rain for you.
We had our first frost here this morning. It's also getting dark earlier meaning my afterwork run goes on in the dark. Which is fine, it just means I can't run across the fields anymore and will have to stick to the roads where there's street lighting.
I'm going to miss running across the fields, jumping over cow pats and wadding through mud. It was nice to just grab the dog after work and have some 'me time' where I could lose the world for a brief hour. Now I have the constant noise of cars going by and their fumes.
Posted by: Justin Cavnor on November 5, 2004 6:04 AMYep, rainy. It's like that here in November. Pre-winter and post-winter can be rainy. It says "snow showers" for tonight, so maybe some of Gods Dandruff will be falling tonight. I'll probably take the snow blower out and make sure it starts (even though I won't need it for a few more weeks). I figure I'm done mowing the lawn. We've had frost about every morning for about two weeks now.
Muddy or not, I still stand on the deck and throw the ball for the dog. Luckily, this year unlike last year, I actually have grass in the back instead of just topsoil.
