I was reading that the president is currently at a salary rate of $400,000. In 1789, it was $25,000 and a few years ago it was voted to DOUBLE the salary from $200,000 to the $400,000 it is now.
It's in the Constitution that the president can have a salary. But, um, do he really need it? After all, it's tax payer money paying it and I don't know when the last time we had a non-rich person as president to begin with. Presidents are pretty much taken care of from the time they take office, until they die. I'm not really sure why they need a salary, let alone such a large one. To me, being the most powerful person of the free world would be salary enough. Knowing that I have a pension, and that I can command big bucks for appearances after my reign.. er.. I mean.. term was over would be good enough.
I think the presidents salary should be on a sliding scale. If you are currently worth millions, then you certainly don't need another $400,000 of taxpayer money.

Hey dick head - get a freaking life!
Oh, don't worry Kell.. it's just one of the oh-so-grown-up ex-coworkers from Verio. I think it's Franken(Rob)stein. Just pay him no mind.
Posted by: Kevin on July 14, 2004 2:25 PMsurvey says.......WRONG ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and what the hell is a coworker? someone who works with cows? I guess you have plenty of them up in the sticks. The proper spelling is co-worker.....but I am sure you were already aware of that sir brainiac.
Posted by: get a clue on July 14, 2004 2:44 PMWell, I did work with cows.. sitting around chewing their cud all day. Plenty of cows up here, which can program better than you. Hmmm.. if you aren't Franken(Rob)stein, and Sir Knight wanted a truce, not sure who else is left aside Bobblehead. But, this wasn't posted in high-level ascii, so it may not be him. Of course, nobody will have the balls to say who they are, and wouldn't say anything to my face. Probably running over to eachothers desks giggling about your wit and humor. "Oh boy! I really got him this time!!"
Anyways, Verio must not have much for you to do if you need to proofread my journal. I don't care, and never have, about typos. If that's all you've got, pretty lame. Why not tell me who you are, or are you scared?
Posted by: Kevin on July 14, 2004 3:26 PMWhat a bunch of morons! These sort of forums are generally used to vent and listen to the opinions and advice from other intelligent, mature individuals. To have to change the manner in which comments are posted resulting from these dick-heads... damn! Better off, though!
Posted by: Kell on July 15, 2004 7:45 AMI'm gonna go ahead and guess that your ex-cow-workers were suffering from a bit of inferiority complex. It would be intimidating to work with someone who was published. But I guess that's where humility comes in. I work with a guy who is pretty much better at everything than me. I learn a ton from him. I have worked with guys who weren't better at anything than me. I was thoughtful and helped them along when they asked for help. I supplied corrections when they were necessary (like some code that didn't belong in a production system) but tactfully. There was only one guy I recall having problems with, and it was becuase I learned perl "from behind him", and ended passing him, and he was concerned about job security. So he was a dick and I am glad to say lost his job a long time ago. Anyways, your ex-cow-workers sure come across as pricks, whether they know it or not.
Posted by: Jim on July 15, 2004 3:30 PMOh, and if this country wasn't run by a bunch of zealots, it would be nice to have an atheist president. Would save billions in taxpayer money to not have to debate the sanctity of marriage in the senate.
Posted by: Jim on July 15, 2004 3:32 PMHeya Jim,
You may be right. I actually like working with someone/people who know more than me in different areas. How else can you learn things quickly? Maybe some of my problem was tact, or their problem was misunderstand the difference between tact and just trying to get the point across quickly to move on. Not sure, but it wasn't I who lost out.
I would sit there and help people for hours. One guy was the slowest learner on the planet, and I had to explain (literally) what almost every line of code did. There would always come a time when I'd refer someone to the docs (teach a man to fish...) instead of hold their hand even more. Maybe they wanted someone to always hold their hand and be their personal tutor. I got more tactful as time went on though, since I learned people needed smilies and pats on the back every time you have a critisism.
I don't think my ex cow-orkers think they come across as pricks. I think they actually think they are being funny.. which is sad, isn't it?
In any case.. the president shouldn't make a $400k salary :-)
