CNN.com - Iraqis express outrage at Hamas leader's killing - Mar 23, 2004
I don't know, but I think the Shiite leaders in Iraq should worry about their own country and keep quiet about others plights for now. They were too weak to overthrow Saddam for 30 years and now they need to have an opinion on everything. And, frankly, I don't trust this al-Sistani guy. He seems like the kind of guy who can go "Start killing the Americans wherever they are" and people would. These people are dangerous, and is exactly the type of person Israel just killed. I'd wager that al-Sistani will be dead within 2 years because someone will see him as a threat (a Sunni, Israel, the U.S., another Arab state) and take him out. But, I also think that that whole region will be a radioactive dust bowl within 5 to 7 years.
They demonstrate against the Israeli attack now in Iraq, but probably don't thank the Americans for giving them the opportunity to do so. A year and a few days ago they couldn't demonstrate unless Saddam said they could.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big pro-Israel guy either. I just think it's time both sides finally stop killing eachother, split up that high-quality sand they have out there, and deal with eachother. But, Hamas wan't genocide against Israelis, and with Israel stepping up their raids, it will eventually be a gradual genocide against Palastinians (after all, they are all guilty of direct or indirectly). Once Israel adopts a "if you know a terrorist and don't turn him in to us, then you are also guilty of terrorism" policy, then there will be less "targeted" bombs needed and carpet bombing would be easier. I give this about 18 months until this happens.
I hope my predictions are wrong!! I don't really care who is "right" or who is "wrong" anymore around the world. People just need to learn to live together. Dying for a cause is easy, living for one worthy of respect.
Posted by Kevin at March 23, 2004 02:18 PMGreat web-site,love all the rantings! My opinion on the middle east- everybody lay off Israel...especially the Arabs. Israel is a small piece of land-the Arabs already have Iran, Iraq,Egypt,Lebanon,Syria,Saudi Arabia,Jordan,to name a few. If we look on a map it's incredible, really. Israel is so small, and wants so little. It will never stop, though.Thank ole Abraham for sackin' his handmaiden.
Just the observations of a poor little German/English white girl.
