Yesterday Suzy took my car to work. Snow tires for the truck were supposed to come in, so she took the car so I could take the truck to get the tires on. For some reason, she decided to get off the safe highway and take the backroads on the way home. She hit a large pothole and totally screwed up my alignment. I was going to take the car in this morning, but the roads are icy. Between the ice and whacked alignment, I felt it was safer to do it another day. Sort of also sucks since I can't get to see Return of the King today.
I'm pretty pissed this happened. Suzy shouldn't have to be driving 40 miles to Schenectady to work, since she was promised to work in the store which is 5 miles away. The corporate bullshit, lying and typical things which happen in the corporate environment (and unions) have kept her where she is. That's what really pissed me off. She could have been hurt, the car could have been damaged, or someone else could have been hurt. There is simply no reason for it.
This morning she took the truck to get the tires on it (since they came in late yesterday and they didn't have time to put them on). And, we have very icy roads. So, I called her office to tell them she won't be coming down. I called since her cell phone was dying. The guy had a tone in his voice like "Why can't she come down? The roads are fine here". Well pal, those roads are 40 MILES AWAY! Hey! The weather is fine in Dallas also, so she could surely make it in safely! The right response from him would have been "No problem, NO NEED TO RISK HER LIFE DRIVING ON ICE. Maybe she could go to the store 5 MILES FROM YOUR HOME TODAY." Nah, that would be too understanding.
Sometimes, I don't understand people. Unless you are a cop, doctor or fireman there isn't much of a reason why you should risk your life or limb to get to a job. When the news keeps saying "treacherous driving" then you have no reason to drive.

Posted by: Kevin on December 18, 2003 12:22 AMDid you get that work promise in writing? 'Cause you should be able to sue them if they are not honoring a written work contract. Just a thought, that way no one would have to risk life or limb, just cash in and kick back. If not, then maybe move closer to work or find work closer to home.
Posted by: Leslie on December 18, 2003 7:08 PMNo, unfortunately she didn't. I told her to do so many many times, but she didn't. And verbal promises mean nothing, and the DM who originally made it quit the company.
