Someone took apart a Robosweep to see how it worked. Pretty simple.
I saw one of these on QVC the other night for like $199. They had it running while they talked about it. In 10 minutes I think I saw it clean 3 square feet. Not very impressive if you ask me. Plus you'll have to still vacuum your own stairs. Anyone own one of these? Seems like a novelty to me.
Posted by Kevin at August 11, 2003 09:35 PMThis is bullshit! Not the vacuum, I just read a story on CNN, I had heard about it, but didn't really think it was true...

Kevin, you gotta do something!
Posted by: Jim on August 12, 2003 5:15 AMWell, currently being unemployed, I'd be happy to train someone in India how to do my job! Outsourcing to India is cheaper (at least the workers are), and seems like the "new thing" these days. Between NAFTA and this, everyone in the US will soon be flipping burgers for a living. I do know some folks who would be better replaced by some offshore folks, and probably will.
Will it work out for all companies who do it in the long run? Who knows. When I used to work for a consulting company, they had an office in India. The manager would fly to India very often, and often complained about the people there. The network guy said that the network traffic he saw from there was mainly people surfing for porn. It isn't like people here surfing for porn at work, as they were harder to watch over. It's hard to manage a team of people who live 3k miles away. Most managers can't manage people 30 feet away, let alone thousands of miles.
So, we'll see. It kind of sucks. With the economy so crappy, and so much unemployment in the IT field, we just have to suck it up and take lower pay. I know I am!
Posted by: Kevin on August 12, 2003 10:36 AMYou'e got it Kevin! We're in a race to the bottom. It is capitalism carried to its' logical extreme. Don't worry though, in time since we will almost all be poor, it will perhaps FINALLY become clear that we need to get our buts to the voting booths and vote some people in that give a dam about the country instead of taking over the world using our kids for cannon fodder. Democracy can't function with an ignorant population who is totally manipulated by the PR people.
Posted by: Michael on August 18, 2003 12:14 PMHmm, ironic as I got a Roomba for my birthday which was Aug 11. Anyway, if it was $199 it was the Roomba they were selling, which while not perfect does work pretty well (avg customer review of 4.5 stars at Amazon) and definitely has some smarts. The Robosweep sells for $20-$40, and the review you posted speaks for itself!
Posted by: Jeff on August 19, 2003 3:44 AMI purchased a robosweep and it works well on hardwood floors. The engine is quite simple and you can even place it on a table and it will not fall off. It's good for 15% of the price of a Roomba!!
Posted by: Bradford on August 30, 2003 5:19 PMCan you tell me who produce the Robo sweep? Could you send me the contact details?
Posted by: Dr.Massimiliano Cau on October 24, 2003 5:32 AMI can't beleive they were selling the robo-sweep for 199.00 on shopping network. If true, those people have no scruples. I looked at one of these and I work in manufacturing, there is about 5 to 10 dollars worth of parts in this thing, including the covers. If the manufacturer is claiming this has artificial intelligence or any intelligence of any kind they are really pushing the envelope! I guess if yopu were to enter litigation and have a good lawyer you could say the mechanical slip diferntial with the turn table emulates some kind of inteligence since it changes direction and won't fall of a table top. But this is really a big play on words and is very misleading! I'd pay about 10.00 to 15.00 for it and then its basically a novelty item. Where they intended to make the money is on the wipes that attach to the bottom of the unit.
Posted by: Steven on February 27, 2004 10:06 AMwhat is the difference between the Robosweep and the Robomaid (besides the price)? Robosweep is 29.95 and the Robomaid is 19.95.
Which product is better?
